This PR simplifies index operations in distributed environments where instances are not always properly closed due to potential server failures (zombie instances).
I believe it makes sense to be enabled by default (breaking change) as this simplifies indexes management for new users who don't know about these options, however to not have a breaking change I disabled this option by default.
